*underline all words with long ē (like in ‘eagle’)

*make new words with ē, ī, and ō long vowels sounds
(When we do this at school, they have alphabet tiles or flashcards. You can make a template for:
_ē, _ī, and _ō
On paper or whiteboard, then they can add letters to make words.)
*think of word families to help: be, he, me, she, we, go, no, so, hi
*students can also make words with long vowels using vowel blank silent ‘e’    (v_e)

*rip out, fold, and cut the book
*ask: ‘What do you think the story will be about?’
*read the book (provide help if they get stuck on a word)

*ask comprehension questions

        ‘Where is Jill going?’ (point to sentence that tells that)

        ‘How is the new school different from the old school?’ (circle the
        sentence that tells you)

‘How do you think Jill feels about going to her new school? Why do you think that?’

‘What did the girl ask Jill to do? What did the boy ask Jill to do?’

'Did Jill make new friends? How do you know?' (read the sentence that helps you know this)

Take a quick break-stretch-jog in place-breathe deep-think calm thoughts.

fainted-(so dizzy or weak that a person falls down like they are asleep)
milliner-(person who makes hats)

Ask:         ‘What do you think Imogene was thinking when she woke up with antlers on her head?’

                ‘Imogene’s mother ‘fainted away.’ What do you think it means? How do you think Imogene’s mother felt when she saw the antlers?’
               
‘What do you think of the hat the milliners made for Imogene and of her mother’s fainting? (They were both funny.)

‘Did you think Imogene was back to normal when she woke up Friday morning?’

‘What kind of animal was Imogene on Friday morning? Did it surprise you?’

What do you think was the funniest part of the story?’

‘If the story kept going, what do you think would happen next?’
