March 30 Monday

Good morning! I hope everyone had a nice week end!
Did you get to watch Mass on TV or the computer? Great job!

Please email by 10:00 AM so I can take and submit attendance.

Let’s start our day with prayer.
The Morning Offering
My God,
I offer you today,
All I think, do, and say,
Uniting it with what was done,
On earth,
By Jesus Christ Your Son.
Amen

Please say the Pledge of Allegiance.

PHONICS
*read word list on page 197
*review high frequency words; new, why, school, friend, she, say
*do box #4 and use some of the words from the list to write a story (with ē, ī, and ō words)
It can be written on paper or in your Phonics Notebook.
*draw a box around words from the list that you used

***Please send me a picture of your story***

Page 207 Build Fluency
*complete each sentence using at least one word with the single letter long vowels ē, ī, and ō (if your child is struggling with this, make a list of these words: no, so, go, hi, we, me, he, she, be)

***Please send me a picture of page 207***

Take a quick break.

READING
We started a new unit of books that are humorous texts. (humorous means funny)

Imogene’s Antlers is a humorous story. Think about what David Small did as an author and illustrator to make that story humorous.
Today you will be discussing a new book that is also humorous.

*fill in your small anchor chart

Title-That’s Good! That’s Bad!

Author-Margery Cuyler

Illustrator-David Catrow

*If your child needs practice ask:
‘What does the title tell us?’ (tells what the book is about)
‘What does an author do?’ (write the words)
‘What does an illustrator do?’ (draws the pictures)

*discuss vocabulary words
drifted-(move wherever the wind or water takes it)
prickly-(having small, sharp points, like a thorn)
quicksand-(loose wet sand that you can sink into)

*listen to book on youtube.com

Ask:
‘Do you think it was good or bad that the balloon lifted the boy high into the sky?’

‘What could be good about a big, scary snake?’

‘Why might it be bad to fall into quicksand?’

In the story some words are repeated.
‘Why do you think the author repeated ‘Oh, that’s good. No, that’s bad!’ and ‘Oh, that’s bad. No, that’s good!’

‘Can you think of examples of events that seem to be good and turn out to be bad and events that seem to be bad and turn out to be good?’ (you may want to look at the story again on youtube.com)

‘What parts of the story are funny? What parts are scary? What parts are exciting?’

MATH Graphing Attributes
Attributes are a way of describing a plane figure or sold figure.
(Examples: number of sides, flat surfaces, curved surfaces, faces)

Page 313
*read the story inside the blue rope and discuss the four steps to graph attributes

*question #1 make a bar graph to show the number of sides of the plane figures
        Step 1-trace the title
        Step 2-trace plane figures
Step 3-trace numbers (point out this bar graph goes sideways, not up)
Step 4-color one box for each side on each plane figure
(hexagon-6, rectangle-4, pentagon-5, triangle-3)

*question #2 discuss how your bar graph would change if you put a trapezoid in place of a triangle (trapezoid has 4 sides, triangle has 3 sides)

Page 314
*question #3 make a bar graph to show the number of flat surfaces on the solid figures
        Step 1-trace the title
Step 2-trace solid figures at the bottom (ask your child to name the solids)
Step 3- trace numbers (point out this bar graph goes up, not sideways)
Step 4-color one box for each face on each solid figure  (cube-6, cone-1, pyramid-5, sphere-0, rectangular prism-6, cylinder-2)

*question #4 students are to circle some solids to sort them, then write the rule they used, there are several answers (use solids we used during our Zoom lesson)  Here are some example answers:

Rule                                         Solid Figures
Flat surfaces                  cube, cone, pyramid, rectangular prism, cylinder
Curved surfaces             cone, cylinder, sphere
Faces                               cube, pyramid, rectangular prism

*question #5 discuss another way which solid figures can be sorted (just write the rule on the lines), you can use the examples above

ART   We have Art Class with Mrs. Nuvola at 11:05. Please check her blog for her lesson
