Let’s begin our day with prayer.

Please say an Our Father and a Hail Mary. If you have any special intentions (you may want to pray for someone who is sick or for all the special doctors and nurses) please say the Glory Be to the Father after them.

MATH
Page 337 Problem Solving
*review the 4 steps to solving a word problem:
        1-read
2-plan    (think about which strategy will help you to answer the    question – write a number sentence to add or subtract; draw a picture; logical reasoning; find/use a pattern)
3-write
4-check  (ask yourself if your answer makes sense)

*question #1
        1-read
        2-plan-(I will write the numbers)
        3-write-(3 tens and 6 ones is 36)
        4-check-(yes my answer makes sense)

*question #2
        1-read
        2-plan-(I know how to do this, I did it yesterday)
        3-write-(count the shapes: answer 1, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3)
        4-check-(yes my answer makes sense)

*question #3 (you may want to have solid figures to demonstrate)
        1-read
2-plan-(This is a 2 step problem.
I know a curved surface and 2 flat surfaces is a cylinder. No flat surfaces is a sphere)
        3-write-(circle the drum and the ball.
Now I have to find out how
                        much Daisy spends.
The drum is 8¢ and the ball is 5¢
                        add 8 + 5 = 13.)
        4-check-(yes my answer 13¢ makes sense)

*question #4  (use solid figures to demonstrate)
        1-read
        2-plan-(I know a cylinder can stack and roll;
a sphere only rolls;
                        a rectangle doesn’t roll)
        3-write-(the kaleidoscope belongs to Tom;
the ball to Mary;
the box to Lynn)
        4-check-(yes my answer makes sense)

*question #5
        1-read
        2-plan-(Oh! This is a 3 step problem.
 First I have to find out how much Simon spends in all.
 I have to add 5 and 3.
Next I have to remember a dime is 10¢.
Last I have to take 8¢ away from 10¢.
        3-write-(5¢ + 3¢ = 8¢
                        10¢ - 8¢ = 2¢)
        4-check-(yes 2¢ makes sense)

*question #6
        1-read
        2-plan-(I have to solve the riddle using logical reasoning.
I ask myself:
 ‘Which solids can slide?’ They all can slide.
Now I ask:
 ‘Which solid cannot roll?’ The rectangular prism
and pyramid cannot roll.
Last I have to look for a figure with 5 faces.
A pyramid has 5 faces, it is the answer!
3-write-(I will cross out the cylinder and the cone because they
        can roll.
        I will cross out the rectangular prism because it has 6 faces.
        I will circle the pyramid because it has 5 faces.
        I will write the letter D on the blank.)
        4-check-(yes my answer pyramid can slide, cannot roll, and has 5
                faces)

*question #7
        1-read
        2-plan-(First I am going to write odd numbers less than 10.
                Now I have to find 2 of those odd numbers that I can add and
                get the answer 14.
                I will try 1 + 9 = 10 ; no good-cross out 1
                Now I will try 3 + 9 = 12 ; no good-cross out 3
                Now I will try 5 + 9 = 14 ; yes! I found the answer.
                But wait if I add 7 + 7 =14 there are 2 answers!
        3-write-(1, 3, 5, 7, 9)
