April 30 Thursday

Good morning!! Thank you for all the beautiful signs and posters you made for me yesterday!! You all made me feel so special!!

I am the luckiest teacher in the world because you are my students!!!

Please email me by 10:00 AM so I can take and submit attendance.

Let’s begin our day with prayer. Please say a decade of the Rosary. If you have rosary beads you can use them.

Think about the joyful events in Mary’s life.

·       When the angel came and told Mary she was going to have Jesus
·       When Mary went to visit her cousin Elizabeth
·       When Jesus was born
·       When Mary and Joseph brought baby Jesus to the temple (a temple is type of church)
·       When Mary and Joseph search for 12 year old Jesus and found him in the temple

If you have any special intentions please follow with the Glory Be to the Father. (You may want to say a special prayer for the bankers, food store workers, and bus drivers.)

Today there are several visual lessons:
*one with me at 10:30 for Math
*one with Ms. J. at 11:30
*one small group with me to do some extra coin counting at 2:00.
We will see a lot of each other today!!

Title: Mama Panya’s Pancakes

Author: Mary and Rich Chamerlin

Illustrator: Julia Cairns

Ask to double check they remember:
‘What does the title tell us?’
(tells us what the book is about)
                ‘What does the author do?’
                        (writes the words)
                ‘What does the illustrator do?’
                        (draws the pictures)

*discuss vocabulary
dousing-(putting out a fire with water or dirt)
stretch-(to make something bigger or greater)
blurted-(to say something quickly without thinking)
quickened-(to more faster)
whisking-(to move quickly and suddenly)

*watch and listen to Mama Panya’s Pancakes on youtube.com
(there is one version that includes extra information not just the story)

Ask:         ‘Why do you think Adika says: I’m one step ahead of you Mama?’  (Adika is ready to go even before Mama reminds him.)

‘What do you notice about these words Mama says to Mzee Odoto: Habari za a subuni?’ (they are words in another language called Kiswahili---they mean ‘what’s new this morning’) do you know how to say ‘What’s new’ or ‘what’s happening’ in another language?

‘Why do you think Mam is worrying about Adika inviting more people?’ (she only has enough money to buy a certain amount of flour and she may not be able to make enough food for everyone invited)

‘Why did Bwana Zaweena (the lady selling flour) put an extra cup of flour onto the paper?’ (because Adika invited her to come have pancakes)

‘Why do you think the guests have brought milk, butter, fish, and plantains?’ (these were things the guests had and they would go with pancakes)

‘Was Mam right to worry about not having enough food for all the guests? Why or why not?’
