May 11 Monday

Good morning! How was your weekend? Did you do something special with your Mom? I had a lovely day with my family!

Let’s begin our day with prayer.

Pope Francis has asked us all to pray to the Blessed Mother. Maybe we can do a decade of the Rosary each day like we did last week. This can be our special way to honor Mary during the month of May. Please use your Rosary Beads if you have them.

If you have any special intentions please finish with the Glory Be to the Father. (You may want to thank God for all our wonderful Mothers.)

Please say the Pledge of Allegiance.

Today is MATH FACT MONDAY!!!

*Practice flash cards with someone or go to:

password: ReadytoLearn!

1- Find our book ‘Progress in Math’ (match the picture, it is far down the list)
2- go to chapter 2
3- look for fluency flash cards under Games & Study Aids
4- if you click on the twisted arrows on the green bar, it mixes up the flash cards, if you click on the arrows between the < > it shows your child the answer
5- practice for 10 minutes (you can do this anytime you would like your child to practice their flash cards)

PHONICS
*read the book The Boat
Page 251 Write About It
*write about the group in the boat
·       Who is in the boat
·       What did you learn about Joan and the boy
·       Where do you think they are going

Take a quick break to stretch and get the fidgets out.

Page 252        Fluency Check
*students read list of words to parents

*if your child reads the word quickly (automatically) without sounding out or blending
·       give them a check in both boxes

*if your child sounds out or blends the word and does it correctly
·       give them a check in the first box (green box)
·       do not put a check in the second box (blue box)

*if your child can not read, sound out, or blend the word
·       do not put a check in either box

This fluency check helps us know if they are having trouble with a certain sound or concept. Then we can practice anything they are having trouble with.

Lessons  #17 is reviewing oa or ow spellings
#16  is reviewing ea or ee spellings
#15 is reviewing ai or ay spellings
                #14 is reviewing long vowels ē, ī, and ō spellings
                #13 is reviewing o_e, e_e, or u_e spellings
                #12 is reviewing a_e or i_e spellings
               
*If your child had trouble with a section it lets us know where they need some extra practice. You can go back to the word lists or books for Lessons 12-17 and practice them when you get a chance.

MATH     Equal Amounts
*show your child 2 groups of coins
        1st group: 2 dimes, 1 nickel, 1 penny
        2nd group: 1 quarter, 1 penny

*count both groups (26¢)

*explain that different groups of coins can have the same value and can show equal amounts

*read information inside the blue rope with your child
*read directions
questions #1-4
*write amounts for all groups of coins and circle groups of equal amounts

Page 366

*read directions
*circle two ways to buy each toy
(your child may need to use real coins or write the amounts as they count the coins)

*read directions, green box, and sentences
*use words from the green box to complete each sentence

SOCIAL STUDIES        Scholastic News-Mo Doesn’t Give up!
(We read several Mo Willems books together! This scholastic new is all about him!!)

*read Scholastic News online (We finished the ones I gave you. You will need to look for this issue in the April Section)

*do page 4 put the titles in ABC order (we did this with spelling words)
*if you look at the titles they begin with E, D, G, W, K, L (tell them to think of the alphabet)

*they do not have to write the titles down, just tell you which one should come next for #2-5 (they did #1 for them)
