May 6 Wednesday

Good morning!  Happy Wednesday!

I enjoy spending time with you all during our Zoom Meetings!!

Please email by 10:00AM so I take and submit attendance.

Let’s begin our day with prayer. Please continue the third decade of the Rosary. If you have Rosary Beads you can use them.

If you have any special intentions please finish with the Glory Be to the Father. (You may want to say a special prayer for factory workers, office workers, and landscapers.)

Please say the Pledge of Allegiance.

GYM
We have Gym Class today with Mrs. McFadden at 8:19. Please check her blog for her lesson.

PHONICS
*read word list on page 239
*box #3 Spell It
*say a word then have your child write it on a paper or in their Phonics Notebook.

(You don’t have to do all the words on the list; you can ask your child 5 words and they can ask you 5 words.

Have them check your work to make sure you spelled them correctly. They may need help with the long o spellings. They can ask you ‘Which long o spelling?’ You can ask them what they think before they write it, this way they don’t get frustrated fixing written mistakes.

I would try these words:
low, coat, blow, road, grow, toast, snow, show, float, row)

Phonemic Awareness       Sound Substitution
(This is a new activity so they may need you to lead them through it and model it, you talk out loud to let them know what you are thinking)

*say the word bat to your child
*tell them that you want them to replace the /ă/ sound with / ō/
*ask ‘What’s the new word?’

(you can model it b- ō-t) (they say boat)

(if your child has trouble doing this orally you write it, but you will have to put the correct  ō a or  ō w spelling. If you have a white or black board, erase the vowel and put in the new vowel sound/spelling, or you can use letter cards to help them visualize it)

Page 245-246         The Boat
*rip out, fold, and cut the book
*read the title

*discuss vocabulary:
row-to use oars to move a boat
oars-a wooden pole with flat piece at the end
coast-the land next to the sea
roams-to wander around without any purpose
load-an amount carried at one time

*read story

Ask to check comprehension:

“Why does Joan say “watch out” as they row the boat?’
(or they might bump into a seal)

‘What might happen if they don’t?’ (the seal could get hurt)

‘What animals get on the boat? Circle naming words that tell this.’
(frog, goat)

*review action words (it has been awhile since we talked about them)
Action words are words that show an action. Like run, skip, hop, talk, shout…

‘What action word tells you how the frog makes the sound ribbit?’
        (croak)

‘What could happen if the goat did not get on slowly?’ (the boat might tip)
‘Why do you think this?’

‘Do you think it was right for them to say “no” to the people?
Why or why not?’

Suffixes  (-ful,  -less)
*a suffix is an ending added to a word like –ed  or-ing
*write the word thank on a white board or paper
*say ’When you thank someone, you tell that person you appreciate what he or she did.’

*now add the suffix –ful to thank
*say f-u-l is a suffix, or ending, it means ‘full of’

Whenyou add –ful to the end of the word thank, you make the word thankful, which means full of thanks

*write hope on a board or paper
*now add –less to the end of the hope
*say l-e-s-s is a suffix, it means ‘without’
*what do you think hopeless means (yes, it means without hope)
