June 8 Monday

Good morning!! I hope you have an amazing weekend!! The weather was beautiful!!

Let’s begin our day with prayer.

My God, I offer you today
All I think, do, and say

What was done on earth,
By Jesus Christ your Son.

1- Find our book ‘Progress in Math’ (match the picture, it is far down the list)
2- go to chapter 2
3- look for fluency flash cards under Games & Study Aids
4- if you click on the twisted arrows on the green bar, it mixes up the flash cards, if you click on the arrows between the < > it shows your child the answer
5- practice for 10 minutes (you can do this anytime you would like your child to practice their flash cards)

PHONICS
Page 303-304 Pam Gets Hurt
*rip out, fold, and cut the book

*read the title and ask your child to predict what they think the book will be about

*read the book
Ask to check comprehension:

        ‘What are the names of the two girls? Circle their names.’

‘What happens when Pam jumps very fast? Point to the sentence that tells this.

‘How does Pam feel when she goes to the doctor? How do you know?’

Page 305 Transition to Longer Words
*read words in both yellow boxes
*choose a syllable from each box to make a word
*write the word

(bath + tub = bathtub; bird + house = birdhouse;
to + day = today; sun + burn = sunburn; far + mer = farmer

Mention that bathtub, birdhouse, today, and sunburn are 2 syllable words that are also compound words. Farmer is just a 2 syllable word.)

*write a sentence using one of the new words

·       Draw 3 rectangles, write 2 on each, count by 2s (6)
·       Add 2 + 2 + 2 = (6)

*underline important information (10 liters, 3 liters---discuss that the 4 bottles of milk was extra information to trick them)

*discuss that 10 liters is the whole and the 3 liters spilled is taken away, and whether they should add or subtract to find the answer (subtract)

*write subtraction problem 10 – 3 = (7)

Mental Math
*read word problem

*underline important information (4 watering cans, 5 liters each)

(Some children will be able to visualize that they need to count by 5s four times. 

Other children will need to draw a picture of 4 containers to be able to count by 5s four times. 

Both ways are fine as long as they get the answer 20 liters.)
