April 20 Monday

Good morning!! Happy Easter!!!  Alleluia ! Jesus is Risen!

Thank you to all the people who were able to make cards for the people living in assisted living homes. Father Anthony and Mrs. Valdes picked up and delivered your cards. I know they appreciated your kind deed!

Please email me by 10:00 AM so I can take and submit attendance.

How was your vacation? Did you get to relax and play? I relaxed, cleaned my house (not fun, but necessary), did a lot of reading, and enjoyed time with my family!

Did you get to see Mass on Easter or yesterday? Did you notice anything? Yes! The priests were wearing white. The banners and cloth on the altar were white. White is the color for the Liturgical season of Easter. That’s right, Easter isn’t just one day, it is a season that will last for 50 days!!

There are 40 days (there is that special number again) until the Ascension of the Lord (Ascension Thursday), when Jesus went to heaven to be with His Father. Then there are 10 more days to the Feast of Pentecost, when Jesus sent the Holy Spirit to the Apostles.

So keep telling the Good News that Jesus is risen!

Let’s begin our day with prayer:
Today I have a song for you, what happens when you sing? That’s right! You pray twice!

Please sing ‘This is the Day that the Lord Has Made’
You will find it on youtube.com at:

Please say the Pledge of Allegiance.

Today is MATH FACT MONDAY!

You can practice your addition math facts to 12 with your flashcards or at:

user name: SadlierStudent
password: ReadytoLearn!

1- Find our book ‘Progress in Math’ (match the picture, it is far down the list)
2- go to chapter 2
3- look for fluency flash cards under Games & Study Aids
4- if you click on the twisted arrows on the green bar, it mixes up the flash cards, if you click on the arrows between the < > it shows your child the answer
5- practice for 10 minutes

PHONICS
*review high frequency words:
away, one, doesn’t, something, back, say

*reread list on page 211 to review ai_ and _ay spellings in words (it has been awhile since they saw them)

Page 221 Build Fluency
*read directions together
*questions #1-4 students will complete sentences using at least one ai or ay word in each sentence (check page 211 for ideas)
(some words to suggest: rain, train, mail, tray)
*questions #5-6 students will write a sentence using each word pair

***Please send me a picture of page 221***

Take a quick break-stretch-jog in place-take some calming breaths

Oral segmentation
*say the words to your child one at a time, ask your child to segment each word sound by sound

You say : hi              Your child says: /h/ /ī/

Continue with these words:
him, we, web, go, got, goat, no, not, note

This activity will help your child to think about how words are segmented (broken up) and it will help them to hear and think about the sounds in words. This will help them when they have to spell a word.

Page 222 Word Ladder
*start at the bottom
*read the clue and have your child write the words going up the ladder
(answers: train, rain, ran, ray, gray)

Phonics Notebook
*read word list U2-L11.3

Reading Lesson with Mrs. Asaro at 10:30-11:00
Please sign in around 10:25ish so we are all here by 10:30.

MATH  Symmetry
*draw 2 pairs if plane figures (circle, squares, rectangles, triangles…) that are the same size and shape (congruent) and 2 pairs that are not the same size and shape (noncongruent)

*have your child identify which pairs are the same size and shape and which pairs are not

Background information about symmetry:
A figure is symmetric if it can be folded to form two matching parts (2 congruent figures). The line of the fold is called the line of symmetry. A line of symmetry divides a figure into matching halves. Some figures can have more than one line of symmetry. A circle has an infinite number of lines of symmetry. Squares and rectangles can be divided horizontally or vertically. Squares can be divided diagonally but rectangles can’t.

*demonstrate folding a sheet of paper in half and cutting along the nonfolded side to make a symmetric shape like a heart or a leaf.
*unfold the shape and have your child compare the two parts and notice that they match exactly
*explain that a shape with two matching parts have symmetry
*explain that the fold is the line of symmetry
*let your child fold a paper, draw a shape along the folded side, and cut it out

Page 333
*read information inside the blue rope
*questions #1-4 read directions together
*circle the shape that shows the line of symmetry
(2-second circle; 3-second square; 4-first rectangle)
(question #4 is sometimes confusing because the parts look like the same size and shape but if you fold them they do not match up)
*question #5 read and discuss Talk It Over
(#4 can help this discussion)

Page 334
*questions #6-11 read directions together
*draw a line to show symmetry (remind them both sides must look exactly the same and use the dots to help)
(answers: #6-10 draw a vertical line; #11 can be vertical or horizontal)
*questions #12-14 read directions together
*draw 2 lines of symmetry for each figure (remind them all parts must be the same shape and size and use the dots to help them)
*Critical Thinking read and follow directions
