*identify the two smaller words (snow, man)
*define the word (a man made of snow)
*repeat steps (write, identify, and define) for these words:

raincoat, anthill, bathroom, pancake, wheelchair, starfish, classroom

Read word list U2-L11.2 in Phonics Notebook

READING
*we have read/listened to/watched these humorous books:

                Imogene’s Antlers
                That’s Good! That’s Bad!
The Old Man & His Door
                Dooby Dooby Moo
Animals Should Definitely NOT Wear Clothing

Discuss:           ‘What is each book about?’
‘Which story could happen in real life?’

Think about:    ‘What does an author do to make the book funny?’
‘What does an illustrator do to make the book funny?’

Discuss:           ‘Which books are about animals?’
‘How are the animals different from animals in real life?’
‘Which of these books do you think is the funniest?’ Why?’
(remind them this is their opinion)

MATH
Please use real coins or play coins to:
*practice identifying these coins and their value: dimes, nickels, and pennies
*count some nickels and pennies
*count some dimes and pennies

Quarters and Pennies
*give your child a quarter (they already have some dimes, nickels, and pennies)

Ask:         ‘Which coin is the biggest in size? (quarter)
‘Which coin is the smallest in size?’ (dime)
‘Which coin is worth the most money?’ (greatest value-quarter)
‘Which coin is worth the least?’ (least value- penny)

*count 1 quarter with a varying number of pennies

Page 357
*read information inside the blue rope
*questions #1-3: count on and write how much
*question #4: describe a penny, a nickel, a dime, and a quarter
(they may tell you about each coin’s size, color, and value)

Page 358
*questions #5-7: count on and write value, do independently (if your child needs more help you can do them together)

Critical thinking questions #8-10
*read word problem
*write 3 ways Matt can trade his 25 pennies

*# 8 you pretend to be Matt with 25 pennies and you want to trade with your child (give them at least 6 nickels), ask them to count out nickels that equal 25¢ (answer: 5 nickels)

*#9 you pretend to be Matt again with 25 pennies and you want to trade with your child (give them two quarters) for some quarters, ask them to count out enough quarters to equal 25¢ (answer: 1 quarter)

*pretend you are Matt with 25 pennies and you want to trade for some dimes and nickels (give them 3 dimes and 4 nickels), ask them to count out enough dimes and nickels to equal 25¢

(This will be a challenge for some students.
If your child is struggling, start them out with a dime 10¢.

Ask what can we do next-try to lead them to 10¢ + 10¢ = 20¢.
Now that they have 20¢, explain if they use another dime that will be 30¢ and that is too much.

Ask ‘if you have 20¢ and I give you one nickel, what do you have?’)

(1 possible answer is: 2 dimes and 1 nickel, the book puts the nickel first, but I explain that we will start with the dime and then do the nickels)

(**There is more than one answer for #10, if your child is ready for a challenge- you can see if they can make 25¢ another way.)

(possible answers: 2 dimes and 1 nickel
                              1 dime and 3 nickels)

Extra for fun: give your child dimes, nickels and pennies and challenge them to come as many ways as they can think of to make 25¢. This creates many different ways which will be a great activity for students who finished question #10 quickly

We have World Language Class with Mrs. Viganola today. Please check her blog for her lesson.

RELIGION
*please finish your Holy Thursday booklet
*color, read, trace, and staple your Good Friday booklet
(this does not have to be finished today-they can finish any time)

This is a really good Beginners Bible called The Story of Easter.
It explains everything from Palm Sunday through Ascension Thursday. If you have time let your child watch this. This is a great way to celebrate Good Friday, Holy Saturday, or even Easter Sunday.
