SOCIAL STUDIES
On Tuesday your child answered the READING CHECKPOINT   that you may have printed from Scholastic News website. Question #4 asked your child to make up an animal character, draw it, and name it.

Today you will start a short book about your character!

Here are some ideas to think about:
·       is your character friends with Elephant and Piggie or Pigeon?
·       what is your character’s problem?
·       how is it solved?
·       think of a beginning, middle, and ending to your book
·       think of a title

Read or watch an Elephant and Piggie book for inspiration!!

Your book can be as long as you like. It will need a cover with the title and your name on it. Make sure your illustrations match what you wrote on the pages.

You do not have to finish the whole book today.

Try to have it finished by next Friday, I will give you time each day next week to work on it.

You can read it to us on Friday, May 22nd.

Here is the Gospel Reading for this Sunday. In it Jesus is telling his apostles that He is going to Heaven to be with His Father and about the Holy Spirit coming to be their Helper:

Jesus said to his disciples: “If you love me, you will do as I command.

Then I will ask the Father to send you the Holy Spirit who will help you and always be with you.

The Spirit will show you what is true. “The people of this world cannot accept the Spirit, because they don’t see or know him.

But you know the Spirit, who is with you and will keep on living in you.

“I won’t leave you like orphans. I will come back to you. In a little while the people of this world won’t be able to see me, but you will see me.

And because I live, you will live. Then you will know that I am one with the Father. You will know that you are one with me, and I am one with you.

“If you love me, you will do what I have said, and my Father will love you.
I will also love you and show you what I am like.

We will celebrate Jesus going up to Heaven on Ascension Thursday and the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.

Here is a coloring sheet to along with the Gospel:
